What the initial assessment involves
A child and adolescent assessment is comprehensive, not a single short consultation. It normally includes:
- time with the parent and child together
- time with the child on their own
- time with the parent on their own
Speaking with the family together and with each person separately lets the psychiatrist build an accurate and complete history, which the assessment depends on.
How Medicare rebates work
You do not need a referral to book with us privately. To claim a Medicare rebate, you need a valid referral: a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan or a referral from your GP or paediatrician. You pay the fee at the time of your appointment and Medicare pays the rebate back to you.
The rebate is set against the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item your psychiatrist uses. The item numbers that apply to a psychiatrist consultation are 296, 297, 299, 300, 302. Your referring GP or paediatrician includes these on your referral.
