Why Join Lionheart Clinic?

You didn't enter psychiatry to manage risk; you entered it to heal. Yet, many of us feel the "weariness of the system" and caught between administrative overload, fragmented care, and the quiet weight of moral injury. When you have high responsibility but low control, burnout isn't a possibility; it's almost a guarantee.

We built Lionheart to restore the balance. We strip away the administrative cognitive load, so you can focus on high-value clinical care. We offer true autonomy over your caseload, transparent remuneration that respects your expertise, and a genuine community to insulate against isolation.

The infrastructure is here. The support is real. You bring your clinical expertise; we handle everything else. What you do with that freedom - the families you help, the young lives you change - that's the difference only you can make.

Stop surviving a system. Start practicing psychiatry with support

What You'll Enjoy

Comprehensive benefits designed to support your professional and personal wellbeing

Your Practice, Amplified

We handle scheduling, billing, documentation, and patient coordination. You get protected clinical time to do the work you trained for—undiluted and uninterrupted.

Reach Families Who Need You

Australia's child psychiatry wait times are measured in years. Through our referral network, your expertise reaches families who'd otherwise go without—across every state.

Community Without Bureaucracy

Peer consultation, complex case discussions, colleagues who understand. The collegial support of a department, without the meetings, politics, or institutional weight.

Autonomy That's Real

Set your hours. Choose your caseload. Take leave when you need it. This isn't 'flexibility within limits'—it's your practice, run your way.

Work From Anywhere

Provide exceptional care from home, while traveling, or anywhere with a stable connection. Telehealth means your location is your choice.

Impact You Can See

You'll know the families you've helped, see the wait times you've shortened, feel the difference a well-run practice makes for young Australians who'd otherwise wait months.

Common Questions About Joining Our Team

Everything you need to know about working with Lionheart Clinic

As a private contractor, you operate as an independent practitioner rather than an employee. This means you have complete control over your schedule, rates, and practice style. You'll invoice for your services and manage your own tax obligations (we recommend consulting with an accountant). This arrangement offers maximum flexibility while still providing you with comprehensive administrative support and peer collaboration.

Completely flexible. You decide when you want to work, how many hours per week, and which days. Many of our clinicians work part-time alongside other roles, while others maintain a full schedule. You can adjust your availability as your circumstances change - whether that's taking time off for family, holidays, or other commitments.

Every clinician has administrative support handling appointment scheduling, patient correspondence, billing, Medicare claims, and documentation. Clinicians working three or more days per week receive a dedicated admin person; others share support with a small group of colleagues. Either way, you focus on clinical care—not paperwork.

Yes, as a private contractor you'll need your own ABN (Australian Business Number) and professional indemnity insurance. We can provide guidance on obtaining these if you're new to private practice. Most psychiatrists find that AVANT or MDA National offer suitable professional indemnity coverage.

You must be registered with AHPRA as a specialist psychiatrist and hold FRANZCP (Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists) or equivalent qualification. Experience in child and adolescent psychiatry is essential, and comfort with telehealth platforms is required.

Yes! One of the benefits of telehealth psychiatry is location independence. You can work from home, while traveling, or from any location with a stable internet connection. Many of our clinicians work from different states and even work while on extended trips.

We use secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms that are easy to use and familiar to most clinicians. You'll need a computer with a webcam, stable internet connection, and a quiet private space for consultations. We provide full training and technical support.

You set your own consultation fees within reasonable market rates. Our admin team handles all billing, Medicare claims, and patient payments. You invoice Lionheart Clinic for your services, and we process payments on a regular schedule (typically weekly or fortnightly, depending on your preference).

We hold regular peer consultation meetings (monthly or as needed) where clinicians can discuss complex cases, share insights, and support each other. These sessions are optional but highly valued by our team. We also have a private communication channel for quick questions and collegial support.

Yes! We provide access to ongoing CPD-accredited training, workshops on telehealth best practices, case consultation groups, and opportunities to contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives. We support our clinicians in maintaining their professional development requirements.

Our clinicians assess and treat a range of stable child and adolescent mental health presentations including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety and mood disorders (stable presentations), OCD, and trauma-related disorders. We do not see acute presentations including active suicidality, self-harm, psychosis, acute eating disorders, or conduct disorders. You can indicate any areas you prefer to focus on or conditions you prefer not to treat.

This is entirely up to you. Some clinicians see 2-3 patients per day alongside other commitments, while others maintain a full practice of 15-20 patients per week. You control your caseload and can adjust it as needed. Our admin support makes it easy to scale up or down.

Onboarding typically takes 1-2 weeks and includes credential verification, setting up your profile and schedule, training on our telehealth platform and systems, introduction to your admin support person, and peer group introduction. We make the process smooth and supportive.

Absolutely! Many of our clinicians work with us part-time while maintaining hospital positions, university roles, or other private practice arrangements. The flexible contractor model is specifically designed to complement other professional activities.

Simply email your CV and a brief cover letter to careers@lionheartclinic.com.au outlining your experience, interests, and what you're looking for in your next role. Our clinical director will reach out to arrange an informal conversation to discuss opportunities and see if we're a good fit.

By doing what you do best. Child psychiatry wait times in Australia often exceed 12 months. Through our telehealth model and established referral network, your clinical expertise reaches families across the country who would otherwise wait—or go without. The difference you make is in the consulting room, with every patient you see.

We hear this often. 'Flexible' sometimes means 'unstructured' or 'you're on your own.' Here, flexible means: you genuinely choose your hours, you have real admin support, and no one will guilt you for taking time off. If that changes, you'd be the first to know.

Ready to Focus on What Matters?

If you're looking for a practice where the systems actually work for you—where admin is handled, peers are available, and your clinical time is protected—we'd love to talk.

Lionheart Clinic is committed to creating an inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from psychiatrists of all backgrounds and experiences.
